Most patients can tolerate pancakes, muffins and soft sandwich bread and remove the crust, although you may want to wait two or three days after the operation to introduce these just to alleviate acute swelling. You can also choose from a variety of other cereal products, including spaghetti and noodles, quinoa, meal and grit. Your choice of meat may be limited to meat bread, stewed chicken or slow-cooked barbecued meat. If you choose to eat meat, you must cook it until it has a particularly soft texture. Tofu is an ideal meat substitute because of its soft texture. For fruits and vegetables, try cooked carrots, mashed potatoes, bananas and apple sauce. These foods are the least irritating to the throat when swallowed.
